MAC Honors Service Persons of the Quarter from USMC Cherry Point and USCG Fort Macon

The Military Affairs Committee (MAC) proudly recognized two outstanding service members as the May 2025 Service Persons of the Quarter for Carteret County: Lance Corporal Nicole A. Lazo of Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point and Chief Erik Mandle, who was recently promoted from Petty Officer First Class to Marine Science Technician Chief (MSTC) at U.S. Coast Guard Sector North Carolina.

Lance Corporal Nicole A. Lazo, who serves as an Administrative Clerk with Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, has made a powerful impression both within her unit and the community. Since enlisting in June 2024, LCpl Lazo has shown initiative well beyond her rank—volunteering with the Carteret County Humane Society, Hope Mission Soup Kitchen, and multiple Single Marine Program events. Her commitment to service and community partnership exemplifies the spirit of Marine leadership.

MSTC Erik Mandle was honored for his exceptional leadership and technical expertise during a high-risk marine incident. As the lead Federal On-Scene Coordinator Representative for the grounding of the F/V Jane Carolyn near Ocracoke, Mandle oversaw a multi-day emergency operation that prevented the discharge of 4,000 gallons of oil into the Pamlico Sound. He also designed and executed a large-scale oil spill exercise, demonstrating his commitment to preparedness and interagency collaboration.

The Chamber extends our heartfelt thanks and congratulations to these two service members for their dedication, professionalism, and positive impact on our region.
